With the Persian Expedition
This book is an incredible war memoir. It is important that you have background knowledge of WWI history and especially the theatre of conflict before you embark on reading this book. This 103-year masterpiece explains how a man with the training and background of the 19th century viewed his involvement as a member of the Dunsterforce in the biggest conflicts of all time.
The original Dunsterville mission was to fight and conquer Bolshevism by organizing Georgians and Armenians to the Southern Caucasus. However, this became difficult due to changes in Transcaucasia, which significantly impacted the entire military and political situation. The text features an interesting appendix showcasing the Dunsterforce Armoured Car Brigade and extensive details on the local people, their beliefs, and customs. Illustrations include a map and 16 photographic plates.
Martin Henry Donohoe (1869-1927), the author of this book, was a war correspondent working for the Daily Chronicle newspaper throughout the first part of the great war; in December 1916, he was made part of the Intelligence Corps. Two years later, Donohoe escaped Petrogad’s Bolshevik Red Terror and joined the Baghdad crew that left Britain to offer reinforcement to the Dunsterforce team.
