The Time Machine
The Time Machine
Set in late 19th century Great Britain, the Time Machine is a science fiction novel written by H.G. Wells. It is one of the first works of fiction to popularize the idea of a machine capable of transporting a human forward or backwards in time.
The main character of the story is an English scientist who has built a time machine. At a dinner party he recounts his adventure to the year 802,701 AD. The earth has long forgotten human civilization and returned to a wilderness occupied by two starkly contrasting races, the Eloi and the Morlocks. The Eloi are a peaceful, simple and elegant people, while the Morlocks form a wild, menacing and brutish society underground. Unable to return home to Victorian England when the Morlocks capture his time machine, the time traveller must enlist the help of the Eloi.
