The Sun Also Rises

The Sun Also Rises

The Sun Also Rises (1926) is a classic work of modernist fiction, and the first novel of Ernest Hemingway's to be published. Its simple but powerful story follows American Jake Barnes and several others as they navigate their lives in Europe after World War I. As they try to come to terms with their experiences in the war, many are unable to share their feelings regarding the changes it brought about.

The Group of American and British decide to travel from Paris to Spain to attend a bullfighting festival. As time goes by it is evident that there are tensions within the group. Hemingway presents a clear view of the lives led by these “Lost Generation” members, including their search for meaning in life and failure to find it amidst the chaos and destruction that surrounded them after World War I.
