The Phantom of the Opera
The Phantom of the Opera
In the Palais Garnier Opera House, a brooding ghost terrorizes the cast and crew. When the leading lady falls ill, a young chorus girl named Christine steps in to take her place. Christine has been receiving vocal lessons from a masked tutor known only as the Angel of Music. When she takes to the stage for a show-stopping gala performance, she is catapulted to immediate fame.
One member of the audience is particularly starstruck. Christine's old childhood sweetheart, Raoul, recognizes the young Swedish singer and falls in love with her all over again. Unfortunately for the young couple, the Angel of Music is watching jealously from the wings. Fuelled by an unhealthy obsession with the young star, he abducts Christine from her dressing room and imprisons her in his lair.
There, his mask falls and he reveals himself to be none other than the Phantom of the Opera — a disfigured and bitter man who lives in the sewers underneath the opera house. The Phantom releases Christine on the condition that she promises to be his forever. Yet when he later overhears her plot with Raoul, his jealous rage takes an explosive and deeply tragic turn. The Phantom of the Opera is Gaston Leroux's captivating tale of musical genius and dark obsession in 19th-century Paris.
