The Old Man and the Sea

The Old Man and the Sea

The Old Man and the Sea written by Ernest Hemingway is a story about an old Cuban fisherman named Santiago who has not caught a fish in eighty-four days. When he hears of marlin being frequently seen near the Straights of Florida, he sets out on his skiff to try to capture one.

When Santiago hooks into a huge marlin, the struggle to bring the fish in is grueling and almost unbearable for both man and fish. After three days of hard work, Santiago manages to land the giant fish only to have it eaten by sharks before he can get it home.

The Old Man and the Sea has been heralded as one of Hemingway's finest works and was even called “the best single piece of writing” from The Nobel Prize committee.
