The New Atlantis
The New Atlantis is an unfinished utopian novel written by the famous English philosopher, scientist, and statesman Francis Bacon. He wrote it in 1624 but did not publish it until 1627. The book describes the foundation of a mysterious island state named Bensalem located in the Pacific Ocean to the west of Peru.
The novel starts with a European ships crew reviewing the great plans for this new city on this island nation while also acknowledging some existing threats. It goes on to describe how members of this nation are selected upon entering adulthood and introduced into further mysteries of their society through three ordeals they must pass before being fully accepted as adults. The rest of the story deals with various adventures that are had on the way to these ordeals.
