The Last of the Mohicans

The Last of the Mohicans

It is 1757 and France and Great Britain are fighting for control of North America. Frontiersman Natty Bumppo — or Hawkeye — returns as the central hero of the story — a rugged and brave huntsman brought up in the wilderness by a tribe of Mohicans. Hawkeye is working for the British, alongside his lifelong friend and Mohican chief Chingachgook and his son Uncas.

The trio are now the last surviving members of their tribe. When they encounter Cora and Alice Munro — daughters of an English colonel — in the forest one day, they soon realize that the pair are being led to a trap by their Native American guide, Magua. So begins an exhilarating tale of romance, adventure and survival as the last Mohicans pursue the traitorous Magua and his French comrades through the wilderness in an attempt to rescue the Munro sisters from their fate.

The Last of the Mohicans: A Narrative is the second and best-known action novel in James Cooper's popular Leatherstocking Tales pentalogy.
