Memoirs of a Confederate Veteran

Memoirs of a Confederate Veteran

Born in the Alasce region of France, Isaac Hermann immigrated in 1859 to America and settled down in the State of Georgia. He became fast friends with his neighbours and was soon indistinguishable from the native southerners.
After the bombardment of Fort Sumter, when President Lincoln issued his call to arms for 75,000 soldiers to coerce the Southern Confedera-cy, Isaac gave up his comfortable life and volunteered to defend his adopted state.

Seeing action in north western Virginia, the Gulf States and the Army of Tennessee, Hermann’s recollections take the reader on an incredible journey through the Confederacy at war, and gives an often unheard perspective on the era of reconstruction and Yankee occupation.

“When the Northern Army attempted on July 21, 1861, to have a holiday in Richmond, the Capital of the Confederate States, we taught them a lesson at Manassas, and inscribed a page in history for future generations to contemplate.”
