Dante's Inferno

Dante's Inferno

Dante Alighieri penned his magnum opus in the early 14th century, but its sheer power and startling imagery endure to this day, over 700 years later. The Divine Comedy has been pored over by scholars across the intervening generations, each one eager to disentangle more of the epic allegory’s secrets. But the work is very much loved by casual readers too, and the monumental themes of faith and morality found within these pages cannot fail to capture the imagination in a profound way.

This is Dante’s Inferno, the first part of the author’s now legendary poetic trilogy, and perhaps the most famous. Charting a journey through the Nine Circles of Hell — from Limbo and Lust to Violence, Fraud and Treachery — and preceded by three cantos that take us to the very boundaries of the Underworld, Inferno is an exploration of wickedness and horror that has penetrated right into the heart of Western literature and culture. “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here,” and join one of history’s most venerated poets on a journey into the dark heart of the abyss.
